PRI — Postural Restoration Institute®

Postural Restoration

An evidence-based approach to human movement that addresses the root cause of pain and dysfunction — the body's natural but often exaggerated postural asymmetries.

What Is PRI?

Science That Explains Why You Hurt

The Postural Restoration Institute® (PRI) was founded in 2000 by Ron Hruska, MPA, PT, to explore and explain the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns, and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles on the human body.

Unlike conventional approaches that chase individual symptoms, PRI identifies and corrects the underlying postural and breathing patterns driving pain, compensation, and dysfunction across the entire body.

At Equilibrium Fitness Solutions, our therapists are trained in PRI methodology — giving us the tools to address the root cause of your movement problems, not just mask them.

Postural assessment

Core Principles of PRI

PRI is built on a set of interconnected ideas that together explain how posture, breathing, and neurology shape the way we move and feel.

Asymmetry Is Normal — Until It Isn't

The human body is naturally asymmetrical. Our organs, diaphragm, and neurological wiring are not mirrored. PRI recognizes this and works with — not against — these patterns to restore balance and function.

Breathing Is the Foundation

Proper diaphragmatic breathing mechanics are central to PRI. How you breathe directly influences your rib position, pelvis alignment, and even how your brain coordinates movement throughout your entire body.

The Nervous System Drives Posture

PRI treats the nervous system as the master controller of posture. By retraining sensory input and motor output patterns, lasting postural change becomes possible — not just temporary symptom relief.

Polyarticular Chains of Muscles

Rather than treating isolated muscles, PRI addresses chains of muscles spanning multiple joints. This systems-level view explains why a hip imbalance can cause shoulder pain, or why jaw alignment affects knee function.

Who It Helps

PRI Works for a Wide Range of Conditions

Chronic Pain Sufferers

Back, neck, hip, shoulder, and knee pain that hasn't responded to conventional treatment.

Athletes & Golfers

Unlock asymmetrical restrictions that limit power, speed, and consistency in sport.

Post-Surgical Patients

Re-establish proper movement patterns and muscle activation after surgery or injury.

Active Adults & Seniors

Maintain mobility, balance, and independence as the body ages.

Desk Workers

Reverse the postural strain of prolonged sitting and screen time.
